Have you ever wondered what is in your spray bottle?
Have you ever thought that what you spray on your bench may just end up in the food you are preparing? It may be absorbed into your skin and breathed into your lungs?
Is this a worry? YES!
Some cleaners on the market contain toxic chemicals. Ammonia, bleach, DIethylene glycol monoethyl ether, 2-butoxyethanol (EGBE), Methoxydiglycol (DEGME) and synthetic fragrances.
These toxic agents can be strong irritants causing liver and kidney damage, can burn your skin and eyes, irritate your lungs.
Be sure to read the labels, even if it says it is ‘green’ or ‘natural.’ Don’t be fooled!
Safe ingredients to use instead are: vinegar, baking soda, lemons (anti-bacterial), essential oils (antiseptic).
Even better, why not make your own!
Recycle an old spray bottle and fill it up with safe ingredients for you whole family. This will not only be a safer option, but one that is better for the environment too.

Ingredients
1 part vinegar
2 parts filtered water
1 lemon, juice only
20 drops essential oil of your choice: lavender, orange, lemon, tea-tree, eucalyptus, peppermint.
Instructions
Fill up your spray bottle with the required amounts of vinegar and water. This will depend on the size of your bottle.
Squeeze and strain the juice of 1 lemon. Add to bottle.
Choose your oils. There is no need to use expensive oils for this purpose, essential oils from the shop shelf will work just find. You can use 1 type or use a combination. I personally like: 10 drops lavender, 5 drops orange, 5 drops eucalyptus. Have fun experimenting! Add more drops if you like a stronger scent.
